Chris Gates

its_me.jpgChris Gates is an American songwriter and musician.  He lives in the Pacific Northwest, after spending much of his life in Texas.  His brand of music brings rock, alt country, jazz, and classical.  The center of his music, save love, is melody and the guitar.

Freedom And Mercy is Chris' third musical story.  He co-wrote Resurrection with Grayson Harper at the First Jefferson Unitarian Church in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1992.  This one-time show was performed by Chris, Grayson, Cathie McConnell, and Peggy Cheney.  Resurrection dealt with themes of the soul's memory through eternity, compassion, and loving sacrifice.

The Jubilee was written and recorded in 1993.  The story of a lonely homeless man living under a huge roller coaster next to an amusement park.  The man is infatuated with the lovely teenage girl operating the roller coaster, and wishes he could live her life.  Themes of misplaced passions and self-identity lead to a tragic ending.  The Jubilee was performed in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Chris' solo performances.

Freedom And Mercy was born when Chris was performing solo in the early 1990s, and when he was also working in surgery.  His rich experiences there help feed the story of Helen and Rev Dr Gaylord.
